SFU Surrey is built just above the Central City Mall. There are several dining and retail options nearby campus. Please use the custom Google map below to see specific venue locations, accommodations, coffee shops, pharmacies, and more all in one map.

The symposium activities will take place on the 2nd floor of the SYRC.

Image 1 below shows the front of the SYRC building. The entrance is just under the white letters that read “Central City.” Once inside, you will see a set of large wooden stairs immediately in front of you and to the right. Take the stairs up (or the elevator further to the right and behind the stairs).

Image 2 below shows the top of the stairs on the second floor. Once up the stairs, the symposium room (2740) will be down the hall on your right. The hall starts just next to the large red sign that reads “Canada’s Engaged University.” Workshop participants will need to go up one more flight of stairs to the Galleria to locate classroom 3040 (see map of Galleria).

Traveling to the Symposium

By Air

The closest airport is Vancouver International Airport (YVR), which is connected to the Skytrain via the Canada Line. Abbotsford International Airport (YXX) is a little further afield. Your own personal travel itinerary will determine which route is best for you.

By Sea

Ferry service from Vancouver Island to the mainland is provided by BC Ferries and Hullo. Bus, taxi, and rideshare options are available at the Tsawwassen ferry terminal.

By Land

Parking: Central City Mall parking is for retail shoppers only. SFU visitors are not permitted to use mall parking. There are many public paid parking lots and street parking in the vicinity of SFU Surrey available for visitors (see map). These lots are public and SFU takes no responsibility for these lots. Electric vehicle charging stations are available in the Central City Parkade covered area of level P3. NOTE: On April 26- 27, there will be a large event at City Hall and the Surrey Civic Plaza that will bring many people to the area. Some streets will be closed and parking lots and street parking will be closely monitored. Therefore, we highly recommend using public transit, taxis or rideshare services to get to campus. You may also consider Park and Ride options (view TransLink map with locations and rates).

Cycling: SFU only offers bicycle storage for SFU students, faculty, and staff. There are public bike racks in front of the entrance to SFU Surrey at Central City (the racks near the Blenz are closest to the symposium). These are public, so you park at your own risk. Alternatively, TransLink provides a map of various bike locker and storage options along transit routes that you can explore based on your travel plans.

Transit (recommended): Metro Vancouver is connected by a vast transit system operated by TransLink, which includes buses, trains, the Skytrain, and the seabus. Rates are determined by rider type and zone. Please see the TransLink website to plan your routes and determine your rates. SFU City Central is right beside the Surrey Central Station. Note: travel to VIVO Media Arts takes about 50 minutes via transit. See the fastest route here.
